This week kind of kicked my butt, so I’ll keep this short and sweet today in the interest of starting the weekend just a little bit early. Shhh, don’t tell the boss! Four o’clock on a Friday is almost as bad as seven am on a Monday. Almost.

Chantilly is a truly feminine and delicate suite that is as perfect as it gets printed in soft, light ink colors. This design makes me think of intricate lace, a soft, neutral palette, highlighted with pale peaches and butter yellows, timeless lace gloves and thoughtful favors, brimming with Southern hospitality and charm, like corked bottles of limoncello or handmade soaps. My favorite part of this board is that gorgeous bride/model with the yellow peony. Of course, it was taken by Elizabeth Messina (can’t you just tell) and I love the relaxed, but classically lovely look about her. It just about gives me goosebumps. Which is a very tall order for a Friday at 4 pm, let me tell you. I hope this adds a little sunshine and pretty to your Friday. Have a lovely weekend!

P.S. Anyone watching The Following with Kevin Bacon? I am simultaneously creeped the eff out and obsessed. Crrraaaazy.

It’s Friday (woo hoo!) and that means it is time for our new inspiration board weekly feature! I have been so excited to post one of these all week. We have had a maelstrom of orders come through the studio in the last five days along with many, many exciting new inquiries, so, predictably, blogging hasn’t been on the “must do” list until this morning. You know you brides are always my first priority around here and that means orders and emails will always come before blogging. But, I sure do love having the chance to carve out a moment to write over here every now and again.

Sometimes, I find that when I am making these boards, it takes me a solid amount of time to cull all the images and bring the look to life. Other times, it is a different story entirely, all the pretty elements seem to fall right into place and the board creates itself. I was planning to show off the Chantilly suite today and the board took me a good couple of hours at night on my couch to get just right. But then, last night I was messing around on Pinterest, saw this truly striking pin of a green and blue parakeet (his name is Kiwi and he belongs to Twigs and Honey!) and before I knew it I had the board for Parfumerie put together in oh 20 minutes or so. I almost think that’s how it should be and when everything comes together just right, you know you have a winner.

When I originally designed the Parfumerie suite, I imagined it would be for a lovely affair at an old estate with delicate feminine touches. Now, I still imagine an estate wedding, but with an on site aviary (where this exists, I’m not sure!) and soft botanical influences. I just love the idea of magnolia blooms cascading down the guest tables and white florals with lamb’s ear tucked into a bridal bouquet carefully wrapped with velvet ribbon and a dangling heirloom cameo. Perhaps pretty teacup favors and escort cards with vintage keys as a nod to the aged feel of the property. I also can’t stop thinking about the perfection of a bronzed crown set atop a simple but delicious cake to tie in the elegant and timeless vision for the day. When C and I were married, I tracked down the prettiest vintage looking crown for our cake and am still not over it. Maybe I won’t ever stop smiling when I remember it, but I am a huge fan of non-traditional cake toppers.

I hope this serves as a pretty send off into your weekends! C and I will be enjoying the sunny 70 degree weather and watching his little brother compete in a high school Academic Decathlon competition (C and I totally did this together about 10 years ago! Yep, letting my nerd flag fly). Go Broncos!

Happy Friday! Today, I am finally unveiling one of our new recurring features for the We Dream In Ink blog. This Fall, when we were re-conceptualizing how we wanted to share our work with paper-loving couples, one thing I knew I wanted to do was visually present how each one of our invitation suites could be integrated into an entire wedding vision and even be a mainstay in forming and executing the overall style of the wedding. Enter a regular inspiration board post for the blog showing off a new design each time!

I’m not a huge maker of inspiration boards, but I love them, and found that when I was creating one around any given invitation set from our collection, the process felt really organic and natural. I am starting this series with the Gramercy suite because it is one of my favorites these days and a bit of a departure from what we usually do, which is more of a rustic/romantic look. I just love how crisp and bold Gramercy is. It is timeless in the way that it is a style that you won’t ever tire of or feel is off trend, but it is decidedly modern too. Sometimes less can be more, and beautiful typography speaking for itself, paired with letterpress, is a striking combination. To me, the board creates a look that is luxe, contemporary, and even a little dramatic with Gramercy at the center.

I hope you enjoy this as much as we do! There are many more to share and I will hopefully be making this a regular weekly series, possibly on Fridays to send you into the weekend with a bit of loveliness.

Suite Photo Updates

by Alexandra on January 9, 2013

in Aerialist Announcements

We just got our third batch of photos today from the ever-talented Melanie Duerkopp and I just had to share one because they are so perfect and I am so beyond thrilled.

We are working on uploading them to our site and should have the first set of 12 or so up this evening. Fingers crossed. Craig did a test run with the Clare suite and I can’t stop staring at the computer screen. We have been working on getting full sets of photos for each house design for so long now that it really is a huge dream realized. I think this has been on my priority list since 2011 and I know I have been collecting little staging pieces for over a year. Which truth be told, is definitely one of the many super fun parts of my job. I’ll gladly take any excuse to hunt miniature treasures and shop freely!

We have our very last session with Melanie next Thursday and hopefully we will finish off this mega project the week after and have the entire website complete and perfect. 2013 is looking like a good year, a very very good year.

Photoshooting Peek

by Alexandra on December 14, 2012

in AP Project Series

Today we had our third session with Melanie, from Melanie Duerkopp Photography, to shoot photos of all of our lovely house designs. And, woo hoo was it ever fun! We are DYING to post all of the new shots because Melanie is uber talented and therefore the pictures are extra lovely. We would absolutely recommend her for any kind of wedding, engagement, portrait or product photography. She is the best!

We really like to stage all our suite photos to create a fuller look for each design and I took this instagram photo of some of our staging smalls after we finished up today. Aren’t they all so cute? I love teeny, tiny collections of things. Le sigh.

Are you on instagram? We are! Follow us by adding @aerialistpress to get a peek at all the behind the scenes action over here.

Happy almost-Friday everyone!

Hello Again

by Alexandra on December 12, 2012

in Aerialist Announcements

(source)

Wow, it feels good to blog again! Our last post was waaaay back in April. Yikes! we had a bit of a rough spring and summer. Some of you may know that I severely injured my right hand while printing and so blogging just couldn’t be a priority for a few months. We also had a few other major life events take place at the same time, but I am happy to report that we are through the worst and into a much brighter and happier time! And, of course, as a huge holiday freak, I am just loving listening to Christmas music, drinking gingerbread lattes and sitting by our tree in the evenings right now. Everything is pretty merry and bright around these parts!

If you have been with us for awhile, you may also have noticed that we have a new look! We spent about two months pouring our hearts and souls into designing and coding our new website, while still printing some really awesome new work for amazing clients. This new site has been our baby. We stayed up late with it (3am content feedings!), got up early to spend time with it, and thought about it pretty much non-stop during all our waking and non-waking hours. There are tons of new, super helpful features that I will be highlighting in more depth during the coming weeks (pricing calculator and etiquette guide, anyone?!), maybe some of you have already tried them out? We will also be adding TONS of new pictures over the next month as we have been working with the incredibly talented Melanie Duerkopp of Melanie Duerkopp Photography to take some spectac photos of all of our work. If you have any comments about bugs, improvements or general awesomeness relating to our new site, please know that we would love to hear them! We are still finding a few minor kinks here or there, but otherwise everything is pretty much as it will be.

I also wanted to let our readers and clients know that we will be adding some new regular blog features that will appear as weekly columns. I’m super excited to start sharing these with you, and I hope they will serve as a good source of inspiration and as a guide to answer all kinds of stationery questions.

Thank you for sticking with us!

New Calligraphy Fonts Available

by Alexandra on April 12, 2012

in Fontophile Files

I’m excited to share that we are adding three new calligraphic fonts to our font library today!  I have been waiting for what feels like ages for some talented calligrapher to cross over into the type designing realm and create a few modern, whimsical calligraphic fonts for us wedding stationery designers to use. We receive so many requests for a more current calligraphic type style that we have been pulling our hair out trying to find the perfect font that just didn’t exist.

Well, the call has officially been answered! Emily Lime and Magpie Paper Works have both independently created a few stunning offerings that truly have the custom look of hand-drawn calligraphy.  We will be offering two of Emily Lime’s latest and greatest and one of Magpie Paper Works’s creations on our website.  As always, each of our house designs can be customized with any of these fonts (or one of the many others from our font collection)! Our online library should be updated by the end of today and the forms sometime next week.  Enjoy!

FONTOPHILE FILES: EDITION #17

by Alexandra on February 3, 2012

in Fontophile Files

It’s February!  Where is this year going? It seems like it is zooming by already. Is anyone else feeling like this? Whew! So. Onto our second #fontfriday post of the year! Today we are highlighting Revel by the mega-talented Emily Conners, who also brought us favorites, such as, Carolyna, Carolyna Pro Black (adore!), and Emily Lime!  Emily’s fonts are always reasonably priced and have a unique, one-of-a-kind look.  Most of her typefaces are script but Revel is not and it is glorious. See here…

Emily describes Revel for the myfonts.com page as…

Revel is a stylish blend of high fashion meets country western. Use all Caps for an ultra-modern, sophisticated look. Or type in all lowercase for a more youthful, rocker effect. This cool font also comes with alternates, decorative elements, ligatures and even a few swashes thrown in the mix.

Fontophile Files: Edition #16

by Alexandra on January 20, 2012

in Fontophile Files

It’s time for #fontfriday 2012 style! We decided to do some new branding for our font friday series to jazz it up a bit. Fun, no? We will change the accent color and number every week but otherwise I think this is here to stay!

For our first 2012 font post we thought we would share Attic by You Work For Them.  We subscribe to their newsletter and it just so happens they are running a killer 50% off sale right now.  Font sales are my favorites because they are so rare and I have such a long, long list of fonts I’m dying to purchase for our library.  What I love about Attic is that its really super quirky, has a hand-written feel and is adorably bold.

Here’s YWFT’s description:

This is about a journey, from humble EPS handset to magical OpenType glory that might even be a bit spooky if it wasn’t so darn majestic. This stately YWFT Attic is full of surprises, with gorgeous stylistic alternates and swash features that even Scooby Doo might leap into your arms over, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids. Make no mistake, though, there’s no Ruh Ro here–in fact there’s glyphs in that thar Attic–over 350 of them, each one hand-carved by Maddy Nye, Michael Paul Young and the artisan Brazilian type ninjas at PintassilgoPrints, known for their vigorous crafting of magical OpenType features.

Tough, demanding and theatrical, yet delicate enough for the most slender chanteuses to catch the Phantom’s eye, YWFT Attic packs all of the emotional power of OpenType, with strong, historical handset roots. Sing, my angels. Sing for the Attic.

All images from YWFT website

I love the way they think about their work! Fun, hip and cool right? Anyway, this is definitely a new addition to my ever-growing, monstrous library of fonts.  I also snuck in a few others, hopefully C doesn’t have a stroke when he sees my new acquisitions show up in Illustrator, hehe!
