I’m excited to share that we are adding three new calligraphic fonts to our font library today! I have been waiting for what feels like ages for some talented calligrapher to cross over into the type designing realm and create a few modern, whimsical calligraphic fonts for us wedding stationery designers to use. We receive so many requests for a more current calligraphic type style that we have been pulling our hair out trying to find the perfect font that just didn’t exist.

Well, the call has officially been answered! Emily Lime and Magpie Paper Works have both independently created a few stunning offerings that truly have the custom look of hand-drawn calligraphy. We will be offering two of Emily Lime’s latest and greatest and one of Magpie Paper Works’s creations on our website. As always, each of our house designs can be customized with any of these fonts (or one of the many others from our font collection)! Our online library should be updated by the end of today and the forms sometime next week. Enjoy!

It’s February! Where is this year going? It seems like it is zooming by already. Is anyone else feeling like this? Whew! So. Onto our second #fontfriday post of the year! Today we are highlighting Revel by the mega-talented Emily Conners, who also brought us favorites, such as, Carolyna, Carolyna Pro Black (adore!), and Emily Lime! Emily’s fonts are always reasonably priced and have a unique, one-of-a-kind look. Most of her typefaces are script but Revel is not and it is glorious. See here…

Emily describes Revel for the myfonts.com page as…

Revel is a stylish blend of high fashion meets country western. Use all Caps for an ultra-modern, sophisticated look. Or type in all lowercase for a more youthful, rocker effect. This cool font also comes with alternates, decorative elements, ligatures and even a few swashes thrown in the mix.

All images found here

It’s time for #fontfriday 2012 style! We decided to do some new branding for our font friday series to jazz it up a bit. Fun, no? We will change the accent color and number every week but otherwise I think this is here to stay!

For our first 2012 font post we thought we would share Attic by You Work For Them. We subscribe to their newsletter and it just so happens they are running a killer 50% off sale right now. Font sales are my favorites because they are so rare and I have such a long, long list of fonts I’m dying to purchase for our library. What I love about Attic is that its really super quirky, has a hand-written feel and is adorably bold.

Here’s YWFT’s description:

This is about a journey, from humble EPS handset to magical OpenType glory that might even be a bit spooky if it wasn’t so darn majestic. This stately YWFT Attic is full of surprises, with gorgeous stylistic alternates and swash features that even Scooby Doo might leap into your arms over, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids. Make no mistake, though, there’s no Ruh Ro here–in fact there’s glyphs in that thar Attic–over 350 of them, each one hand-carved by Maddy Nye, Michael Paul Young and the artisan Brazilian type ninjas at PintassilgoPrints, known for their vigorous crafting of magical OpenType features.

Tough, demanding and theatrical, yet delicate enough for the most slender chanteuses to catch the Phantom’s eye, YWFT Attic packs all of the emotional power of OpenType, with strong, historical handset roots. Sing, my angels. Sing for the Attic.

All images from YWFT website

I love the way they think about their work! Fun, hip and cool right? Anyway, this is definitely a new addition to my ever-growing, monstrous library of fonts. I also snuck in a few others, hopefully C doesn’t have a stroke when he sees my new acquisitions show up in Illustrator, hehe!

HELLO!!!! Happy new year! I totally know it is January 16th and we have been missing in action since around Thanksgiving. We have been hard at work and just finished up one of the big items on our plate for this new year: The Lab Event! The Lab Event is a bridal show like you have never seen before. No booths, no pushy vendors, no tacky hotel. Instead the Lab presents inspiration and the best vendors from Northern California in true, creative, swoon-worthy and out of this world wedding pro style. The event featured four vignettes created by different teams of seriously talented vendors. Each vignette was inspired by a reader-created inspiration board from four major wedding blogs: Snippet and Ink, WeddingBee, Perfect Palette and Style Unveiled. We worked on two of the four vignettes (The WeddingBee and Perfect Palette boards) and while it was a massive amount of work, we loved pouring our heart and soul into the stationery for both. We will be doing a full recap of the event once the pro pics are back from the amazingly talented photographers tapped to capture the pretty (um, tons of runway show, sf fashion bloggers, hair and makeup lounge, and photobooth amazingness to share!). The event was sold out (300+ people!) at Cline Cellars and was such a major success that you can expect it to happen yearly. Thank goodness too because ti was some of the most fun we have ever had (imagine the best wedding you’ve ever been to, times it by a billion and make it a yearly thing. YES.)!

We are taking off the rest of today to recuperate and celebrate MLK but will be back tomorrow and ever after with much more blog activity, some new year’s resolutions, upcoming/past projects and of course, the return of #fontfriday. Much love and thanks for hanging with us during our hiatus!

Good morning! Happy Tuesday! It is absolutely beautiful over here in California today, bright blue sky, shining sun, crisp, autumn air, 65-70 degrees of perfection. So what better day than to launch our new project! Yeah!

Bespoke was born from client wishes, my love for the tiny things in life and our joint desire for new adventures in our work. We had started to receive so many inquiries for calling cards and pre-designed business cards that Bespoke was a natural next step for us. Bespoke has its own website and takes personal cards to a whole new level of customization, ease and loveliness. We wanted to make the process of ordering letterpress calling cards step-by-step easy with the ability to add a personal, unique touch to everything. And of course, all of the cards will have the luxurious quality that only letterpress can give. Here is a look at the process:

Looks fun, right? Essentially, you choose every single element of your cards, from shape and size to font, image and color. We even offer upgrades like thicker paper stock, additional ink colors and edge painting. Bespoke cards also have an extra speedy turnaround time of 10 business days, compared with our 3 week turnaround for wedding orders. The whole selection process begins with our incredibly easy to use form on our website here. Once you hit submit, we will draw up a first digital PDF proof and send it over for your review. You email back any changes you have, we make them and send over a last digital proof. With your approval we are ready to print! The service is for both personal social cards and business cards that are looking to be extra fabulous.

We have been project-crazy over here ever since our slow-er (it hasn’t been slow this year, more accurately, it just hasn’t been a breakneck pace every day) season started. I love this time because it’s when I truly get a chance to innovate, better develop our company and finish off infrastructure projects that get neglected December-August. It is sort of glorious and I am constantly blissed out. This all means I have had a lot of time to think, hence the Watercolor Letterpress launch, &Co. development, our baby line, sample card updates, etc. Well, there is another MAJOR project that has been in the pipeline which we are *thisclose* to being ready to share. And, by *thisclose* I mean we will be ready to share next Monday. In the meantime I wanted to post our palette {indigo ink + caramel + cactus + warm gray} inspiration board for Project Be. (I’ll share the full name next week).

For now, I can say Project Be was born from client wishes, my own love for tiny letterpress and our mission of constantly challenging ourselves. My mom really loved to tell me growing up that if you aren’t slightly uncomfortable then you aren’t stretching yourself. Thanks, mother! We started feeling comfortable in our workload and daily landscape so it was time to add some fresh spice to the mix. Sttrrreeeetcchhhhhh. Ahh, feels good, doesn’t it?

As I was browsing some of my favorite type sites this week looking for a font for a personal branding project I stumbled upon something inspiring, heartwarming and just really dang cool. This week’s #fontfriday post is a collection of glyphs compiled by the Society of Typographic Aficionados to benefit relief efforts in Japan. I love what this project represents: that there are innumerable ways to help, become involved and provide some support for those who have suffered some disaster that shakes you to your core. The wedding world generally really stepped up to contribute to rebuilding and providing aid for Japan but I didn’t realize the typographic community had also gotten involved. Here is this description of the Made for Japan type project…

In March of 2011, the Society of Typographic Aficionados began organizing a collaborative project which would unite the typographic and design communities. The goal of Font Aid V: Made For Japan was to raise funds to expedite relief efforts after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Nearly 300 contributors from 45 countries sent in over 500 glyphs in a single week. Behind the scenes, volunteers Neil Summerour, Silas Dilworth, Delve Withrington, and Grant Hutchinson were up to their elbows in Adobe Illustrator and Fontlab assembling the typeface. The sheer number of submissions coupled with the complexity of some of the designs caused unforeseen delays in completing the typeface. The team not only managed the immense influx of submissions, they also had several technical hurdles and multiple content reviews to mitigate before the final font could be produced. Several months after the project was initiated, Font Aid V: Made For Japan was finally ready for distribution.

With the help of Sogo Japan, all proceeds from sales of this typeface will be delivered directly to organizations in Japan, such as Second Hand and AMDA International (Association of Medical Doctors of Asia). Sogo Japan strives to help circumvent regular international charity channels and the inefficiencies associated with them.

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped us spread the word about the Font Aid V: Made For Japan project. A full list of contributors is available on the Society of Typographic Aficionados website.

To purchase this font and support the efforts of the Society please visit Veer.com here.

I just wanted to pop in to share a new project we are working on in between printing about a billion pretty invitation orders over the next few weeks!

When we send out samples and clients request specific ink colors we usually send a full invitation in that color in addition to the suites they list on the order form. This takes a ton of time for us to pull together and I think ends up being a little confusing for the receiving client. For a long time I have wanted to revamp our system a little bit and instead send mini ink color cards for the colors requested. We just recently had a little extra time so we started printing them up and they are too sweet!

We have over 30 colors in our ink library so this isn’t a project that will be finished overnight but we are aiming for the end of this month. I think they will be a great addition to the sample packs and will be a more useful way to share our ink options with new clients. I also love the teeny size and the teeny envelopes I just purchased for them!

We are doing some additional printing for other AP-related projects that I will be sharing over the next month or two before the wedding high season kicks in. Which looks like it will be starting a little early this year for us- both exciting and a little sobering (late nights ahoy!), we just got our first 2013 inquiry last week! Woo hoo!

Happy #fontfriday friends! Today we are mixing it up a bit and doing something a little new. The holidays are fast approaching (yaaaay!) and so the entire Font Friday crew decided to get together and each do a free download, using one of our new font favorites, Skunkling. In case you are out of the loop, Skunkling is a truly fabulous, fun, fresh font (see what I did there with the alliteration?) designed by typographer Jason Mark Jones. Skunkling was born when Jason signed up for the Design*Sponge and Veer “Design your Own Alphabet” contest. He recently took it to the next level and turned Skunkling into a font, which you can purchase here.

But hold up! Before you whip out your Kate Spade/Hobo/duct tape/Michael Kors/paper-clipped pocketbook get ye-self over to the Design Editor blog. Why? Because Jason has very generously decided to do a Skunkling giveaway to a lucky #fontfriday reader!

To enter, here’s what you need to do: 1. Visit Design Editor, the host of our contest. 2. Comment on her blog post letting us know HOW you’d use Skunkling. 3. Tweet the following: “Just entered a #fontfriday #giveaway @DesignEditr, hosted by @jasonmarkjones, the creator of #skunkling and the @FontFriday crew” Commenting AND tweeting count as two entries!

Now before you run off to tweet the bejeezus out of the giveaway, visit the other #fontfriday blogs for their free downloads and check out the details on our own printable below…

Our printable is designed as a flat holiday card in the A2 (4.25 x 5.5) size. To use, simply download the pdf file here, print and cut along the trim marks with a paper cutter! The file is set to print on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Happy early holidays!
