Fontophile Files: Edition #9

Nine is my favorite number and since this is my ninth Font Friday post I thought I’d share a special one from our font collection (ever growing!).  Sudestada is of course a Sudtipos font and is one of the most unique fonts we use on a regular basis.  It is casual, formal and lovely all at once.  It reminds me of my Dad’s beautiful script handwriting and I always get excited when one of our clients request it. About a year ago we started receiving a lot of requests for a font that loops and swirls off the page the way a lot of calligraphy these days does.  There isn’t a great ready-made font option for this but we quickly realized Sudestada is well suited to embellishment and started using it for names on invitations and adding the swirls and loops shooting of the page.  Here’s an example of the lovely Sudestada in its original form and after we play with it:

Fun, right?  It’s also a pretty popular look with our clients.  Our house design, Sail uses Sudestada with other design elements to create a more modern beach themed invite, originally created for a couple getting married in South Carolina where sea oats are abundant and as pretty as flowers.  We have since had requests from clients to use just Sudestada paired with another roman font in a more simplified version of the Sail suite.  The following photos are of my favorite rendition, created for a couple that *just* got married last weekend (Everyone say “Congrats Ashley and William!”!!).

Oooooh, this is the font used for my name on the personal notes (with the debossed snail) you made me which I love, love, love! I never realized before that you added the swirls and loops – how clever and charming! But, of course that’s you Alex! (By the way – the last envelope liner paper I purchased was handmade marbleized paper from Venice – how cool is that?)
